The Red Panda Trail: Community Conservation & Responsible Tourism
This project focuses on community-led conservation and sustainable development in Monigong, West Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh. Situated in a remote region rich in biodiversity, this initiative aims to protect the habitat of the endangered Red Panda while simultaneously improving the livelihoods of local tribal communities.

This project has exclusively focused on empowering women from families that have historically relied heavily on hunting within the local community.
We have been working to:
-
Develop and implement sustainable livelihood alternatives for local communities, reducing their reliance on forest-based activities that may harm the Red Panda's habitat.
-
Strengthen community-based conservation efforts through training and capacity building programs, empowering locals to actively participate in wildlife monitoring and protection.
-
Promote Responsible Tourism initiatives that generate sustainable income for the community while minimising environmental impact and raising awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation.
-
Conduct research and monitoring to assess the effectiveness of conservation interventions and gather data on Red Panda populations and their habitat.
-
Facilitate community-level policy formation on responsible tourism models, including the development of guidelines for business owners and guests visiting the region. These policies aim to minimise the negative impacts of tourism on the environment and local culture and ecology, while ensuring the equitable distribution of benefits within the community and ecosystem.
