Green People is a for-profit impact organisation focused on reversing the migration of marginalised farmers in Uttarakhand. After the 2013 floods, thousands of hamlets became ghost villages due to large-scale migration.

Through The Goat Villages, promoting agro, eco, and responsible tourism, and Bakri Chhap, which connects farmers directly to consumers, the organisation's goal has been to halt and even reverse this migration.

Impact Investors' founder, Mani Mahesh Aurora, also co-founded Green People (The Goat Villages) and Bakri Chhap, which have been recognised with awards like the World Tourism Award (London) and Outlook Responsible Tourism Award (India) [Watch Video].

Under his grassroots leadership, these organisations have driven substantial impact:

  • 75x growth in visitors: Transformed remote villages into thriving rural tourist destinations through innovative marketing

  • Pioneers in Responsible Tourism: Implementing practices that promote sustainability and cultural preservation, influencing local communities to implement the same practices

  • 3x rise in traditional farm produce value: Enhancing the economic potential of traditional farming

  • 6,000 goats insured and vaccinated: Provided free services for livestock welfare

  • 300+ mule owners now debt-free: Achieved financial stability through tourism income

  • 80% of farmers returned to their villages: Revitalised rural farming communities, transitioning into agro-tourism

  • 5x increase in villagers' average savings: Improved financial security for residents

  • 27% growth in solo female travellers: Encouraged safe and responsible travel for women through all-women led operations and events

  • Strategic partnerships: Collaborated with major brands, government entities, and educational institutions to advance responsible tourism, sustainability, and cultural preservation.
